Ham bhi dekhenge

Posted on Jan 1, 2020Jan 1, 2020 by Sankrant Sanu

Note:

The poem “Ham Dekhenge” by Faiz was objected to by some for using Islamic imagery, but others have argued that this is a poem of secular protest and the Islamic imagery is incidental.

Accordingly I have re-written it replacing Islamic imagery with Hindu imagery but keeping the original sense.. This will allow the protests to be more inclusive. Just as Hindu students have sung the Faiz poem, I hope Muslim protestors will also join their fellow Hindu students in using this, thereby honoring diverse traditions.

Parody of an original poem by Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Parody is a fair use under Copyright Law. This version © Sankrant Sanu, 2020
